A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Warning:

while not aiming at horror, this game contains potentially disturbing imagery and themes, such as death, self-worth, identity, trans-humanism.

This game was made in 15 days for the Winter Newbies Special 2022 game jam.

C:\OVER\MIND

Follow Alexander Blackwood as he explores the Godcomplex, a mental institution built after the end of the world, meant to alleviate the sufferings of the souls of now-deceased people. Look for Doctor Jacob Stedman: he will be the one to rid this world of misery.

This game is mainly driven by narration and dialogue, followed in a point-and-click fashion; the artstyle is inspired by the works of Giorgio De Chirico as well as dadaist photo collage.

If you ever find yourself stuck or frustrated, I wrote a walkthrough that you can follow to reach both endings.

The game features around 30m of content, including:

  • Philosophical themes
  • Two separate endings
  • 8 collectible "gifts" needed to reach the best finale
  • Voice acting
  • Several puzzles
  • Jacob Stedman

Install instructions

After downloading the game, you need to decompress the files.

If you choose to download the 7z version, it will be more compressed but will require a compatible 7z decompression tool.

If you choose to download the .zip version, it will be less compressed, but it will not require additional software.

After decompressing the files, simply look for the "game" executable and run the game.

As with all RPG Maker games, if you dive too deep into the files, you might spoil yourself the endings.  :)

Incredible style, funky faces, and so immersive of a world using just black and white! Impeccable utilization of the nonsensical to make sense and meaning. Great use of comedy interspersed within the more horror-adjacent elements. Can't wait to play more, and hopefully not die this time! With love, as always...

Finished the game on Saturday and I will say this is probably one of my favourite RPG Maker games now. I will def be checking out your other works soon!

So glad you enjoyed it!

I have much to learn, but it really means the world to me that my little game could take a spot among one's favorites... <3

I hope you will like my other work!

This is less of a game and more of an experience. A dialogue, a question asked, and by the end I'm not sure how to answer. But I don't feel pressured to. I have the time and patience given to me to just absorb and chew over everything I saw and read.

Thank you for putting this gem out into the world!

Thank you so very much!!

I am so glad you enjoyed the experience! I can't overstate how much it means to me that you understood the enigmatic nature of the game.

Sometimes, when answers don't come naturally to the questions you are faced with, experiencing the labyrinth of paths as a wonder and not as a prison to escape from can be the best option. That's how I ended up making the games I make.

I hope you will be around when the next projects will see the light of day!

one of my all time favourite pieces of media, got me through some pretty dark times, well done!

Thank you so very much! I really can't overstate how happy I am that I could help someone through my work.  <3

Я в захваті від гри, але що за музика за задньому плані грає, ніяк не можу її віднайти.

(Я використовую Google Translate)

Я дуже радий, що вам подобається гра! Більшість музики походить звідси, але деякі я відредагував сам (не зробив). У будь-якому випадку ви повинні мати можливість зайти у файли гри та перевірити кожну доріжку з її назвою.

I downloaded the game expecting it to be a horror game, and I was amazed that when I finished the game, I didn't feel anything, neither scared nor sad.

After finishing the game, I just lay in bed and was thinking and reflecting on the three endings I made, and when I realized it, it was already night, this experience is certainly worth it.

Yes, this is not a game, C;\OVER\MIND is an experience, a reflection of "regrets" and worth a lot. Congratulations to the creators of this work.

Thank you so much for taking the time to fully experience the game!

How you described your experience is exactly was I was going for - no jumpscares to relieve the tension, nor high-octane moments: just a lingering sense of unease and that something is deeply wrong, remaining unresolved.

I am so happy you found my work worthwhile! <3

I don't know what to say - It definitelly is not my type of game BUT
I'm amazed by the dense atmoshpere and the artistic choices that you've made.
Music reminds me of some of the works of Ace Team (mostly Zeno Clash) which I love - it's eerie.

There was a lot of love and soul put into this game and it shows in every second of it - it's an art.

Thank you!! I am so glad you like it!!

I know it is not for everyone, because it not a "game-y" game, and on top of that it is very weird, which can both be reasons for not liking it.

I was a novelist before delving into game development, and for me it was the next logical step to narrate a story, and from what you said I think I have achieved my goal. Thank you <3

wow i saw milk inside a bag of milk!

I'm glad you enjoyed the reference :)

This is great. If you don't mind me asking, which vers. of RPG Maker did you use for this?

(+1)

I am so glad you enjoyed it! I used RPG Maker MV, and for the point-and-click mechanics I used DK Mouse System. :)

(+1)

Thank you so much! I heard it was possible to make P&C games on RPG Maker but it seemed so intimidating. You've inspired me with this project <3

Made an account just to say i LOVE THE VIBESSS

The bizarre imagery really drew me in. Intriguing game.

Thank you so much for your interest in my game! :)

Thoroughly enjoyed the environment of C\OVER\MIND with the limited colours, the point & click adventure, along with the plot of the game being very dark but also up to the player to decide how Alexander got to the Godcomplex. Really nice game Sugary Chamomile!

Thank you so much for taking the time to play my game! I have watched your video and I have noticed (as I saw you did too) several typos and mistakes. I will be sure to clean them up! I am so very glad you enjoyed the environments and the characters, and I really liked your ideas and interpretation of the story. Thank you! <3

nice vibe and themes, it resonates well with my interests and my own work :)

Thanks for including a walkthrough, the guy next to the elevator said i needed 6 items but in fact i needed 8 ^>^

Aah I missed that!! Thank you for pointing it out! I am glad you could still enjoy it <3

Really love the opening of the game, you guys really did a good job keep it up

Hel lo. I absolutely loved the theme and vibes from this game, from the visuals to the designs of the characters! Horrors beyond human comprehension my beloved.

Although I'm not sure of it, I think I found a bug. The things that are supposed to lower the candle's flame are not actually reducing it, not sure if this is a bug or not.

P.S. Loved the Milk Inside A Bag of Milk reference :)

Hel lo! I am so glad you liked it!

Unfortunately, what you found is not a bug, but a time constraint XD

The flame does slowly die. It just does so very, very slowly.

I did not have time to fine tune it, especially considering that a strict time constraint may prevent some people from enjoying the dialogue, so I preferred to keep it very loose instead of accidentally make it very tight.

When the jam will be officially over, I will go back to it and modify it.

Thank you so much for your words!! <3
