SAFE
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Warning
while not aiming at horror, this game contains potentially disturbing imagery as well as delicate themes, such as: death, loss, dread about life and mortality.
This game was made in 14 days for the Summer Frog Jam.
Safe
Enjoy a safe stroll inside the Academy of Eden in the shoes of the PhD. applicant Stag and soon-to-be Professoressa Emerita, Ophelia.
Safely engage in conversation with the local students, and safely dispatch the foes that stray your path from the achievement required to enter the ranks of the Professors of the Academy: erasing the gap between selfhood and consciousness.
All problems ought to be solved;
All rules ought to be followed;
All safety protocols ought to be respected.
Features
- Point-and-click style puzzle and story driven gameplay.
- A strange and surreal photograph-based world with several environments and puzzles.
- An innovative SAFE MODE that protects you from the consequences of your actions (as well as more advanced features).
- A profound, fundamental* and indestructible* gap between selfhood and consciousness
- Two battles.
- Two endings.
- One wish.
- L. J. Artemis.
Extras include:
- A print-ready cover for a large DVD case
- A print-ready image for print on a CD/DVD or its label.
You are encouraged to adapt the image to your specific needs, such as available case dimensions.
Known Bugs
This game was made in 14 days for the Summer Frog jam in order to test some underlying systems I am developing for more ambitious games.
As such, unfortunately, there can be some rough edges here and there. Please, do notify me of any and all problems you face while playing SAFE, and I will resolve them as soon as possible when the jam ends.
- Sometimes PHI's normal attack registers as a perfect and a miss at the same time
- For some reason I decided to store all "safe mode" related triggers in the settings file. I don't know what got over me and I didn't have time to shift everything to the regular save file. For any issues with this, please try deleting the SettingsConfig.tres located at
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\SAFE\SettingsConfig
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Godot/app_userdata/SAFE/SettingsConfig
- Linux:
~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/SAFE/SettingsConfig
- Windows:
- The game should support all display resolutions. However, when in windowed mode, the game window is 1920x1080. If this causes problems, you can edit the SettingsConfig.tres file or delete it to reset to automatically fullscreen. I am sorry if this causes any inconvenience. I really, really hate the way Godot handles window resolutions.
- When starting a new game after changing any unsafe mode triggers, the game will keep them on and will not reset them. Furthermore, the IMM and TRS values display as their modified part: this last one is just a visual bug and the underlying values should be correctly reset.
- A weird crash happens if you fight the door, nourish CHI and attempt the Drowned seaside fight. I haven't figured out what happens
- Some text goes beyond borders in the inventory
- Quitting from the game using the Quit Without Saving button will not hide the side influence bar.
Plans for the future
After the voting period of the jam I of course intend to fix all the above listed bugs; as well as make a small 10-20 pages manual as a companion piece to this work to replace the regular text walkthrough file. The idea is to provide a Godhusk-like manual that could serve both as a strategy guide and an explanation of the story and characters.
Thank you all for staying by my side all these long years of admittedly intermittent development. This is meant to be a short treat to myself after graduating from my Master's Degree in Philosophy.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

There is so much in this game! It all works very well, leaving you wanting more. It's going to leave me thinking about the dichotomy between abstraction and empathy for a long time ^^
